year in review

The past year posed some unique challenges to CDW and our customers. With the pandemic not yet fully in the rear-view mirror, many organizations are now facing a shift from remote to hybrid work, while the entire industry is dealing with chip shortages and availability issues as a result.

Nevertheless, we are proud of what we were able to accomplish this year, working closely with our leading partners. Here are a few of our solutions highlights from 2021.

CDW & Cisco

At the onset of 2021, CDW Canada set out a goal to be the “go to” partner for every Cisco segment and architecture. To help accelerate that mission, CDW ensured there was alignment and consistent cadence throughout the entire year across every architecture and segment lead, which resulted in double digit growth across all areas of the business.

They say “practice makes perfect” and CDW was a testament to that, putting in the necessary work each and every day to achieve multiple master specializations, jumping to the #2 Cisco partner in Canada with 258 percent YoY growth for FY21, and most importantly becoming the 3rd partner in Canada to hit the $100M club.

Key Cisco Wins

CDW and Cisco helped modernize a large health research organization with the latest Cisco data centre equipment. Additionally, the CDW and Cisco teams assisted in allowing the customer to move workloads to and from the cloud with ease of management.

CDW and Cisco orchestrated a comprehensive, enterprise-grade Wi-Fi solution to help a large multinational retailer modernize their wireless infrastructure. With the help of our solution architects, the customer can simplify operations and enhance network visibility.

CDW & Dell Technologies

For 2021, Dell Solutions + Dell Client continue to be a top grossing partner with CDW with $130M total revenue, including $23M currently back ordered. Customers for both revenue streams are up 35 percent combined, with solutions leading the way at 28 percent growth, with top selling solutions products like VxRail, PowerEdge and PowerStore.

Key Dell Wins

Although we’ve had many wins with Dell this year, across the public and private sectors, here are two that stand out:

A financial services leader approached CDW to assist with a data centre refresh for a global technology consolidation and centralization. We designed a solution comprised of Dell VxRail, Cohesity backup, Fortinet software and firewalls and F5 global load balancers to support the tech consolidation and centralization – reducing their data centre count from seven to three.

The strength of our relationship with the customer, partnerships in the region and knowledge in this vertical led to the best possible architecture and competitive pricing to support a deal that was a win-win for everyone.

In May 2021, a higher education customer engaged with senior CDW account executives and solution architects to discuss operating system patching, anti-virus updates, virus scanning, CPU/memory performance adjustments and hardware changes needed with their current MSP.

Due to our experience, CDW was able to determine their main concerns with a quick turnaround. During our first onboarding, their new Director of IT mentioned that he was impressed with our expertise and depth of resources, saying that he “regretted not working with us sooner.”

The customer now has a robust monitoring and patch management solution in place, and we reduced the cost of technical staff/training needed to maintain the system.

CDW & Sophos

In 2021, Sophos remained a top cybersecurity partner with CDW with $4M in total revenue, growing 12 percent YOY through exceptional performance of Sophos’ Intercept X, a next-gen endpoint solution.

Key Sophos Win

Through our partnership, CDW and Sophos were able to strengthen the security posture for a gold and silver mining company with the addition of Sophos MTR for their existing Sophos Intercept X endpoints and servers. This full-managed service allowed the client to better focus on how and when potential incidents are escalated, as well as giving them more control in their environment to keep the organization safe. This became one of Sophos’ top wins in 2021!

CDW & VMware

For 2021, VMware has continued to crack $20M+ in revenue with CDW and sits at the #13 grossing partner for solutions. Virtualization and hybrid cloud solutions are leading the way in sales across critical Canadian verticals such as education, government, healthcare, enterprise, small business and media & entertainment.

Key VMware Wins

In 2021, a large university in Western Canada needed a solution to get the lowest latency possible for their Tableau application to help move to a SaaS model on AWS. CDW professional services determined that virtual machines offered the best method to navigate back and forth to their data centre, which allowed them to migrate to the cloud without converting their VMs to the AWS standard. Even though the university had already acquired the software from another partner, it still put them ahead of the game. Now their VMs are hosted where they need them and the solution is running faster than expected.

CDW provided a long-standing enterprise healthcare customer with a new $825K hospital information system and supporting network. As part of this strategy, the hospital made an additional investment in VMware NSX Firewall with Advanced Threat Prevention for intrusion detection and malware prevention. This gave them a much greater ability to proactively hunt and inspect data centre traffic for emerging threats across their network, mitigating security risk significantly across the entire organization.
